Monica L. Felder-Rodriguez

Monica Felder-Rodriguez is a Board-Certified specialist in Health Law who has been practicing law in Florida since 1993. She is the Immediate Past Chair of the Executive Council of the Health Law Section of the Florida Bar. She is a licensed health care risk manager. She has extensive experience representing physicians and other health care providers, as well as hospitals, ambulatory care centers, medical groups, home health agencies and other health care facilities. Ms. Felder-Rodriguez regularly represents health care providers in professional license investigations and disciplinary actions before various health care boards, including the Florida Board of Medicine, Board of Nursing, Board of Osteopathic Medicine, Board of Podiatry, Board of Chiropractic Medicine, and others. She assists physicians with overpayment issues or fraud and abuse investigations involving Medicare, Medicaid, or third party payors. She also advises hospitals and other health care facilities on issues involving credentialing, peer review, EMTALA, advance directives, risk management, medical staff bylaws, rules and regulations, and policies and procedures, Baker Act compliance.

Prior to joining the firm, Ms. Felder-Rodriguez served as a prosecutor for the Florida Board of Medicine and Agency for Health Care Administration (now the Florida Department of Health). While with the Agency, she handled over 175 disciplinary cases involving physicians, allowing her to gain valuable experience with and intimate knowledge of the disciplinary procedures and processes used when prosecuting health care professionals. She then worked for the Florida Attorney General's Office as Assistant General Counsel to various health care boards. In this position she provided legal assistance to the Boards, including guidance when imposing disciplinary action against health care providers, interpretation of statutes and rules, and drafting administrative rules and regulations. The knowledge and understanding of the regulatory process Ms. Felder-Rodriguez obtained while working for the State of Florida allows her to provide invaluable representation to her professional clients.

Ms. Felder-Rodriguez graduated in 1992 from Duke University School of Law, receiving a Master of Laws degree in 1995 in International Law. She obtained her undergraduate degree with honors from Tulane University.

Ms. Rodriguez has been awarded the highest "AV" rating by her legal peers through Martindale Hubbell. She was selected for inclusion in Florida Super Lawyers, a comprehensive guide to the top 5 percent of attorneys in the state as chosen by their peers, in 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2012, and 2013. Ms. Felder-Rodriguez has been a member of the Florida Bar since 1993 and is admitted to practice before the United States District Court in the Southern and Middle Districts of Florida.
